Mt Waumbek

Winter ended today at 7:33 AM. In order for a hike to count as a Winter peak one must complete the hike and return to the trailhead before that time. We met 5 others from VFTT at 1:00 AM for our final hike of Winter 2005.

This is the route we took today.

Directions to the trailhead: From the intersection of Route 115 and Route 2, head west @ 4 miles to Star King Road on your right. The road is marked with a hiking sign.

Time to summit: @ 2 1/2 hours

We arrived at 12:30 AM and found that Pete from Canada had already arrived. He was sleeping and left a note asking people to wake him by pulling the string attached to his toe.

Sherpa John drove up from Boston.

Pete looks like the rest of us feel. Geri and I managed to grab 4 hours of sleep before between the end of our Mt Moriah hike and the start of this one.

Charlie brought along a sled for the return trip down the mountain. It ended up in several pieces after hitting some rough terrain.

To get here we traversed over Mt Star King.

Pete brought along some home made brew to celebrate this last hike of Winter 2005.

Believe it or not, it was Geri who decided we should join the group for this hike.

Not all of us got some sleep in before the hike.

Charlie is all smiles. The return trip was quick with us back at the trailhead at 6:13 AM. Several of us went out to breakfast where we welcomed Spring in!
