Owls Head

Wilderness - Black Pond bushwhack - Lincoln Brook - Brutus Bushwhack

March 7, 2010

Today was another bluebird day! We met at 7:30 AM for a trip out to Owls Head with some old and new friends. Some used snowshoes from the start, some microspikes and others bare booted until after the Black Pond bushwhack, but by the Lincoln Brook trail all were wearing snowshoes.

A quick trip out to the start of the Brutus whack with snow @ 1 foot deep to break through. The Brutus whack was not broken out but some faint tracks of a previous trip remained in spots. The woods in this area are mostly open so even with the steep terrain we made good times.

with the deep snow on the ridge we had excellent views towards the Bonds and Franconia Ridge. By the time we started back the warm temps had softened the snow making for a slower descent, but then a quick trip back to the cars.
