North and Middle Tripyramid

Livermore, North Slide, Mt Tripyramid trail

March 13, 2010

I did this hike back in January with others, but today Geri and Justin were with me. We had heard of blowdown issues from previous trip reports so were interested in how the day would go. As we made our way up Livermore Road we could see the numerous blowdowns that others had mentioned. We zigged and zagged across the road as we bypassed them.

Arriving at the junction of the North Slide trail we stopped for a snack before we continued onward. Just after we crossed the stream we heard and saw lots of moose activity. Spring is in the air and the moose are coming down to the streams. The trail had seen as much moose activity as hiker and skier activity - well packed, at least at the start.

When we arrived at the bottom of the slide the snow had hardened and showed little sign of usage. As we started the climb we cuaght 3 back country skiers who were switching from skins to crampons for the steep ascent. We stayed in our snowshoes and made use of the televators.

Making our way to the top of the slide we stopped to take in the views of the surronding moutains and watch the skiers get ready for a run. Off to the summit for some photos, before a quick trip over to Middle and South peaks. Now the fun part of the day would begin - glislading the South Slide!

Unfortuantly the crusty surface didn't make for the best sliding conditions, but we did have fun and included a few races along the way! Can't wait for next year!
