Mt Cannon

High Cannon - Kinsman Ridge - Lonesome Lake trails

February 19, 2011

Chilly day! But not due to the temps - it was the wind! Nice 10 AM start as we and 6 others (Paul, Dianne, Rich, Dina, Tom, and Megan) headed out with a mixture of snowshoes and micro spikes. The trail was fairly hard packed so both worked well.

One we turned onto the High Cannon trail we only saw two hikers on the way up. The "ladder" was burried under snow and not an issue. Great views for Franconia Ridge at several spots along the way. Reaching the summit some bonded up the steps of the tower for a quick photo. 3 hikers were just leaving who had measured the wind at 51 mph.

Next stop the summit building where we indulged in hot food and drink before starting our descent. About half way down Kinsman Ridge we came to one section of frozen snow that was challenging to get down, but all made it with no blood being spilled. When we reached the lake we took a walk out onto it to play in the wind :>

Fun hike with new and old friends!
