Pierce-Eisenhower

Crawford Path

February 20, 2011

With the winds on Washington blowing at 81 mph at 6:30 and the higher summits forecast calling for high winds all day, we modified our Monroe to Pierce hike to be a Pierce-Eisenhower out and back. Good call that paid off with a blue bird day for us as we left the summit of Pierce!

We met up with Jeff, Karine, Emily, and Megan at the Highland Center at 8, and started out 15 minutes later. Good broken out trail to Pierce that we could bare boot on. Winds busting on the summit to 20 mph, but with temps in the single digits it was cold. Geri decided to trun back at this point, while the rest of us headed to Ike. Aobut 10 minutes later we started to encounter deeper snow and drifts, so we stopped to put snowshoes on.

We made good time, and while approaching Ike, saw a huge snowfield on the south side, so chose that as the easiest approach - good footing and great views! We measured the wind at the summit at 37 mph with some higher gusts. Summit photos and we started the return trip.

Back at Pierce we delayered and ran the last 3 miles back to the highland center. Another awesome day in the mountains with good friends!
