Today was the 9th Flags on the 48 Memorial Hike. We decided to hike to the summits of Eisenhower and Pierce to see the flags raised on the summits. Joining us were Dave, Monica, Mike, and Gina. After nearly a week of dreary weather we started out on the Edmunds trail under bright sunny skies.
We made good time and quickly were above treeline enjoying wonderful views. Looking up at the summit we saw the flag crew still making their way, and we fell in line behind them. While we waited for the flag pole to be assembled we descended out of the wind and chatted with some hikers from Canada who were here to see the same event. Soon the crew was ready to raise the flag and Laura descend to us with a bag of cookies to share and let us know it was time. The flag was blowing in the breeze and the crowd on the summit snapping photos.
We were off, now headed over to Pierce to see the flag there. Leaving the summit we could see the flag flying under blue skies. Soon we were approaching the summit and the flag. Time for lunch as we enjoyed the nice weather and a suprise visit from Larisa and Cath who were hiking the ridge. We realized that 5 of the 8 of us were wearing the same brand of trail runners for footware and took a photo before heading out and making our way back to the car.
