Mt Isolation

Rocky Branch, Engine Hill, Isolation, Davis Path

January 13, 2010

Jason and I met in Twin Mountain at 7 AM to drive over to the start of our hike together. Along the way we saw a beautiful sunrise with some nice cloud formations.

The trail was mostly broken out, but was drifted deep in certain areas. Pretty straight forward hike. At the height of land we took the Engine Hill bushwhack which goes through several large birch glades with views of Isolation and other peaks including Carrigan, Whiteface and Passaconaway.

We noticed a lot of moose tracks, some a few days old and one on our descent that was today while we were on the summit. Temps were in the teens with a light wind, with mostly clear blue skies between us and the southern Presi's

Photos on the summit and a much quicker descent put us back at the car at 4:20 - no need for headlamps today.
