TRAILS: Jackson Webster trail

Today mark the completion of a journey I didn't know I was on until I was two plus weeks into it. While on a hike to the Carters, Tom suggested that I make an attempt to complete the Single Season Winter 48 (SSW48). It was January 6 and at the end of the day I had already completed 12 of the 48 peaks. So the journey began
Tom stood on the summit with me on 32 of the summits. I had hiked 305 miles in the course of 28 days of hiking. Geri was there on 20 of the summits. Her support, encouragement, and understanding is what made this possible. Thanks to technology we were able to share in many of the hikes via email and phone calls.
The journey had many memorable moments - breaking trail through 3 foot snow depths, crawling under blowdowns, taking a friend to the ER on New Years Eve, Bluebird days on the Northern Presi's, Sunset on Mt Washington, Participating in a rescue of a woman with a broken leg, Warm temps and no wind on Franconia Ridge - the list goes on and on.
Today a group of 13 of us met at the Highland Center. After a relaxed breakfast we started out for a fun, spirit filled hike. As we approached the summit the skies brightened for us even though we were still in the clouds. The trail was in great shape allowing us to bareboot.
And there we were - on the summit. Photos and hugs. Champagne, cookies, cupcakes, marinated mushrooms, Grey Jays. We headed back down the trail, put our gear away and enjoyed drinks and food at a nearby resturant.
One journey has been completed - another has started.
