Lafayette & Lincoln

Bridle Path, Greenleaf, Franconia Ridge, Falling Waters

Pulling into the Parking lot for the Bridle path I met Tim C. about to head out for his hike. Shortly afterwards Jeff arrived, then Mark (aka Silverfox) and finally Hiker Ed.

Off we went ascending via the Bridle path under blue skies. Along the way several stops to enjoy the views and take photos. At the hut we encountered winds for the first time and a few others that were doing the same hike as us.

As we climbed higher towards the ridge the winds increased. By the time we reached the summit we were experiencing 40 mph winds. After a few quick summit photos we continued along the ridge towards Lincoln the winds were blowing us around, but not knocking us over.

We saw a few others hiking towards us hiking directly into the wind - we were certainly smiling more them then. After the summit of Haystack we found protection from the wind and enjoyed a lunch stop in bright sunshine.

Heading down the trail back towards the car we encountered deep soft snow. The descent was quick with Jeff and I hiking down the river bed at times.

Directions to Trailhead
Rte 93 north Past Exit 32 onto the Rte 3 Parkway. Go past Exit 33 and pull into the Lafayette Place parking lot on the East side of the Parkway.
