Webster Cliff Trail

Hot hot hot, middle of august heatwave! A decadent mid-week hike as we were on vacation. Our group met at the Highland Center -- BobC joined us, as well as Steve, Bara (and great pyreneese Pierre), and Amy from Tucson (with Tugger). With one car already spotted at Edmunds, we carpooled down to Webster Cliff trail to start our hike.
Webster Cliff runs steep and we were pretty toasty in a matter of minutes. Coming across a group of 4 young women hiking the AT with their big packs left us feeling we better not complain too much. Both dogs were great on the trail and managed the steep sections quite well, although Pierre with his long hair was certainly feeling the heat. The views along Webter Cliff are lovely - we had blue skies even though they were somewhat hazy from the heat. The Wylie house with it's Ice Cream and Fudge seemed to be calling us from every vantage point. From Webster we headed to Jackson, and then on to Mitpah Hut. Once there, Bara and Pierre would head back to Highland Center while the rest of us headed up to Pierce. \par
While the day was still very hot, we felt the extra mile to Eisenhauer would be well worth it and decided to press on. Making good time, we were soon starting up the cone. Here we were able to appreciate the work the trail crews had done recently, this side of Ike had new steps, a ladder or two, and some pretty tight cairns. We hit the peak around 5 or so - while the sun was still out, it was getting lower and the lighting on Ike was quite specatular. We savored it for a few minutes and decided we had better finish up with our hike. Edmunds is one of our favorite trails down from the Presi's, and today was no exception. \par
