Mt Wolf

[22k JPEG Image]

Our original goal for today was Scar Ridge which is a bushwack. But it rained all night and didn't stop until 7:00 AM. When we met Julie and Dannette at the Golden Arches in Lincoln we agreed that it would be too wet and switch to Plan B - Mt Wolf, another peak on the Y-Alpine list.

This is the profile of the hike from our GPS.

[22k JPEG Image]

We start out on the Kinsman Ridge trail which. It starts out going uphill quiuckly.

[22k JPEG Image]

Soon it levels out as you reach the ridge. Due to all the rain the night before the trail was wet in many areas.

[22k JPEG Image]

Time to loose some clothing as we warm up.

[22k JPEG Image]

The trail is well maintained with rogs/logs to walk on over most of the wet areas.

[22k JPEG Image]

Very hazing morning - or were we in the clouds?

[22k JPEG Image]

Throughout the hike we kept commenting on how green everything was.

[22k JPEG Image]

Here is Julie descending the last section before the junction with the Gordon Brook trail.

[22k JPEG Image]

Although we took the Gordon Brook trail to return to a car we had dropped off on Rte 112, for now we continue on the Kinsman Ridge trail towards Mt Wolf..

[22k JPEG Image]

But not before a quick snack. Dannette brought some great treats along to share.

[22k JPEG Image]

The woods opened up in this area, but still wet.

[22k JPEG Image]

One of many large puddle crossings we encountered.

[22k JPEG Image]

All of the crossings were very doable - although poles helped for balance.

[22k JPEG Image]

Enjoying lunch on top of Mt Wolf with a view of the Franconia Ridge - hidden in clouds.

[22k JPEG Image]

Hard to identify the mountains you are looking at when you cannot see the tops.

[22k JPEG Image]

A happy group :>.

[22k JPEG Image]

The clouds finally lifted enough for a view of Mt Liberty & FLume.

[22k JPEG Image]

On the return trip we stopped off at Gordon Pond.

[22k JPEG Image]

Julie is checking the map for the return while Dannette simply enjoys being outdoors today.

[22k JPEG Image]

Another view of the pond with a peak in the background.

[22k JPEG Image]

We encountered 8 brook crossings on the way down. Some were simple to cross, others we had to scout around for the best spot to cross, and the largest one at the bottom required we build a partial bridge to get across.

[22k JPEG Image]

Luckily this crossing already had a mini bridge to walk across.

[22k JPEG Image]

Juile, Geri, and Dannette waiting for Bob to cross.

[22k JPEG Image]

The bottom couple of miles of the Gordon Brook trail is very flat and easy to follow.
